The top 7 tips for smart printing
Did you know that you can save money when printing documents? And when savings go hand in hand with being eco-friendly, that is even better.
In this article, you will find tips from our experts on how you can save money on printing at home and in the workplace.
Tip no. 1: How to save ink
Before printing a document, you should activate “draft” mode and print double-sided. This option helps to reduce ink consumption.
To do this, go to the File tab – Options – Advanced – Use draft quality:
You can also use ink-saving fonts such as Garamond, Ryman Eco or Ecofont. When possible, you should use the “black and white” mode which should be set by default so that you do not have to think about it.
Tip no. 2: Reduce the margins
You should also remember to preview your printout. It may seem like common sense, but do not forget to reduce your margins to include more text on each page. This tip can help you reduce the number of pages you print, which is nothing to sniff at!
Tip no. 3: Use your ink cartridges regularly
When you install an ink cartridge in your printer, it will get worn out and deteriorate. This is due to the ink drying. Therefore, you need to be sure to print regularly to get the most out of your purchase. You should print at least once per month.
Tip no. 4: Remember to properly turn off your printer
When you leave your printer on in standby mode, the cartridges are not positioned so that they are closed off. Therefore, your ink cartridge may dry out faster.
If you turn it off, you will find that your ink cartridges will last much longer, allowing you to buy fewer cartridges. It is simple and economical!
Tip no. 5: How to store ink cartridges
To preserve your inkjet cartridges, you should keep in mind the following tips:
- Do not store them in direct sunlight. You should keep them in a cabinet or drawer.
- Store them in a dark, dry and cool place. They should never be exposed to a temperature higher than 29 degrees Celsius.
- Do not set up your printer near a heater.
Tip no. 6: Your empty cartridges are valuable!
Consider installing collection boxes in your workplace to recycle ink cartridges. You should also think about going to a shop specialised in ink cartridge collection. The materials in your cartridges are still valuable and can be reused. Manufacturers like us will then be able to put them back on the market and give them a second life! If they are not reusable, we transform them into office materials. You can find collection points at our retailers (link to where to buy).
Tip no. 7: Buy remanufactured cartridges
By buying remanufactured cartridges, you can eliminate the consumption of 0.9 L of oil for new inkjet cartridges and 3.5 L of oil for new toner cartridges according to the official figures on the worldwide consumption of ink cartridges for printers. It is a simple gesture for the planet. Remanufactured cartridges are also cheaper on average: they require less energy to make and the raw materials are already available. You can thus save an average of 30% on your ink cartridge budget while printing more, up to three times more in some cases.
